RedBull Take out One-Two for Race one at Albert Park
Broc Feeney secured a remarkable victory in an action-packed Race 4 of the Supercars Championship at Albert Park, fending off a strong challenge from teammate Will Brown to deliver a one-two finish for Red Bull Ampol Racing.
Starting from pole position, Feeney maintained his composure while chaos unfolded behind him, with multiple incidents and battles keeping fans on the edge of their seats. Brown finished second, while Cameron Hill impressed by claiming his maiden Supercars podium for Matt Stone Racing.
The most astonishing performance of the race came from championship leader Cam Waters, who charged from 22nd on the grid to finish sixth. Waters edged out Anton De Pasquale by just 0.0461s in a thrilling drag race to the line.
Brodie Kostecki held off Ryan Wood for fourth, while Thomas Randle, Matt Payne, and Chaz Mostert completed the top ten. Feeney was ecstatic after securing his first win since Adelaide last November.
"It's been awesome, look at all the people here and it's only Thursday," Feeney said. "I can't thank the team enough. We were close in Sydney a lot of times, but they really deserve this win. Will drove unreal out there today. Great teamwork, and I'm stoked to be back on the top step."
At the start, Feeney got the jump and established a one-second lead, while Brown fought hard to keep Hill at bay. The race saw plenty of aggressive driving, with Waters carving through the field and Kai Allen engaging in a tense battle with Aaron Cameron.
Further drama unfolded when Richie Stanaway was muscled out of fifth place by Kostecki, and De Pasquale slipped down the order. Meanwhile, Mostert and Wood made significant progress, charging into the top ten from outside the leading pack.
The carnage continued as Andre Heimgartner, Will Davison, and David Reynolds scrapped in a tight midfield battle, while Macauley Jones and Cameron collided at Turn 3, leaving the latter stranded in the gravel trap.
A late-race restart on lap 10 saw Feeney maintain his advantage as Waters struggled to clear Cooper Murray. Mostert and Wood engaged in an intense scrap, while James Golding hit a tyre bundle, causing damage to his car and forcing an early retirement.
In the closing laps, Feeney extended his lead to two seconds, though Waters managed to claim the fastest lap bonus points. Despite his remarkable recovery drive, Waters’ championship lead over Brown was trimmed to 45 points, with Feeney jumping ahead of Mostert to claim third in the standings.
As the Melbourne round continues, the battle for the championship intensifies, with Feeney proving he is a force to be reckoned with in the 2025 Supercars season.
