Cameron Hill Takes Madien Supercars Victory with MSR Taking there First One-Two
Cameron Hill Seizes Maiden Supercars Victory in Thrilling Race 5
Cameron Hill has claimed his first-ever Supercars win in a dramatic and action-packed Race 5 at the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint. The Matt Stone Racing (MSR) driver stunned the competition with a commanding drive that saw him secure a surprise one-two finish for MSR alongside teammate Nick Percat.
Hill’s path to victory was set in motion the moment the lights went out, as he executed a flawless launch to overtake pole-sitter Broc Feeney into Turn 1. From there, the Canberra-born driver controlled the race with confidence, showcasing both his skill and MSR’s growing prowess in the championship. His victory marks a significant milestone, coming in his 58th career start and delivering back-to-back Australian Grand Prix wins for MSR.
The race, originally scheduled for 19 laps, was shortened to 12 laps due to two Safety Car interventions. The first caution came after Jack Le Brocq and Ryan Wood tangled at Turn 5, sending Le Brocq’s Tyrepower Camaro crashing into the concrete barriers. The resulting debris brought the race under control of the Safety Car, delaying green-flag action.
When racing resumed on lap 3, Hill maintained his lead, with Percat holding off Feeney behind him. However, the race barely had a chance to settle before another incident brought out the Safety Car on lap 4. This time, David Reynolds was sent into the Turn 1 gravel trap after contact with Thomas Randle, who was attempting a move on the inside while Bryce Fullwood also battled for track position. The chaos further condensed the field, heightening the tension as the race neared its time-certain limit.
The final restart came on lap 8, with Hill immediately stretching his lead while Percat fended off Feeney’s advances. Behind them, Will Brown, Andre Heimgartner, and Cam Waters engaged in a fierce scrap for the remaining top positions. Despite pressure from the chasing pack, Hill remained unfazed and expertly managed his pace to take the chequered flag by a margin of 0.5745s over Percat, with Brown completing the podium just 0.8244s adrift.
A jubilant Hill expressed his delight after the race, saying, "You can say I've been working towards this for a long time. I had a good feeling about today. If we could get off the line well, I knew we could win. It’s unbelievable—one-two for MSR! The team has put in so much effort, and they truly deserve this."
As the championship battle intensifies, Brown’s third-place finish saw him close the gap at the top of the standings, reducing his deficit to just 31 points. With the season heating up, Hill’s breakthrough victory could be a turning point for both himself and MSR as they set their sights on more podiums in the rounds ahead.
