Waters’s performance was a masterclass in consistency and control. Whether under the afternoon sun or the evening lights, on a dry track or in the pouring rain, his Mustang remained untouchable. Securing pole position in all three races, Waters translated that pace into three consecutive victories, completing what could be the season’s most dominant single-event display.

Adding to his triumph, Waters clocked the fastest lap in each race, pocketing an extra 15 points for a flawless weekend total of 315. “I thought we were going to have fast cars this weekend, but not that fast,” he admitted after his Sunday success. “It’s awesome to be able to convert it when you’ve actually got a fast car. I can’t thank my team enough for giving me something this good.”

His reward is a commanding 60-point lead in the championship standings, the largest gap between first and second place after a season-opening round in the 300-point era, which began in 2008. It’s an early statement of intent and a clear signal that Waters is the man to beat in 2025.

But Waters’s Sydney sweep wasn’t just a personal victory; it carried major implications for Ford and the entire Supercars championship. Just two years ago, Ford’s commitment to the series seemed shaky, with the manufacturer voicing serious concerns about technical parity. Last year, while showing improvement, the title fight was ultimately a Chevrolet-dominated affair between Triple Eight’s drivers.

However, late in the 2024 season, signs emerged that Tickford Racing—Ford’s leading outfit in recent years—was closing the gap. Now, with Waters and Tickford setting the pace right from the start, the Blue Oval has firmly positioned itself as the team to beat.

Sydney Motorsport Park is widely regarded as a comprehensive test of a car’s capabilities, making Waters’s performance an ominous warning for Chevrolet. If Ford’s resurgence continues, the balance of power in Supercars could be shifting dramatically.

While it’s still early in the season, one thing is clear: Ford’s revival is real, and Cam Waters is spearheading a campaign that could redefine the Supercars landscape for years to come. All eyes are now on the next round to see if this dominance continues or if Chevrolet can mount a fightback.
