Shannons Speed series wrap up Winton
Action-packed Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series saw Tom Oliphant and series leader Bailey Sweeny share the spotlight with their triumphs – Oliphant secured a convincing victory in the reverse grid race, marking his presence among esteemed TCR winners, while Sweeny's commanding performance in the afternoon extended his lead in the standings, culminating in a 20-second victory over teammate Josh Buchan. The race, however, was not devoid of drama, with a late-race collision involving Michael Clemente, Buchan, and Zac Soutar, currently under investigation. The HMO Customer Racing team showcased their dominance by locking the top two spots on the podium.
In the National Trans Am Series, Lochie Dalton of AWC GRM demonstrated exceptional prowess by claiming victory in both Sunday races, securing a clean sweep of wins. Dalton's composed performance in the first race propelled him just over a second ahead of Cody Gillis, while the second race saw him maintain his lead, overcoming challenges including a safety car restart. James Moffat secured second place in the final race, disrupting Gillis's run of second-place finishes throughout the weekend, while Gillis still clinched an impressive three podium finishes in just his third round competing in the series. Dalton's victories narrowed the gap to teammate and rival Moffat in the standings.
Joey Mawson's dominance in the S5000 Australian Drivers' Championship was evident as he clinched two wins in Sunday's races. Despite a chaotic start in the first race that resulted in several cars being taken out, Mawson managed to secure his second victory of the weekend. The final race proved less dramatic, with Mawson leading from start to finish and securing his third race win of the weekend. The weekend marked a triumph for Mawson, leaving Winton with his second round victory of the season.
In the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series, Jude Bargwanna's commanding performance at Hi-Tec Oils Race Winton saw him claim two victories, completing a grand slam for the round. Bargwanna's Ford Falcon FG initially faced challenges from Jim Pollicina, but he skillfully navigated the grid to secure his second victory of the weekend. The dominant Bargwanna concluded the round by clinching another comfortable victory, further establishing his supremacy on the track. Bargwanna, along with Tilley and Pollicina, formed the expected top three on the outright podium, with Pollicina leading the way in the Kumho Cup.
