Brad Binder to stay at KTM till 2026

KTM's Rising Star Brad Binder Commits to MotoGP Journey until 2026

MotoGP's South African sensation, Brad Binder, has inked another early contract extension, confirming his allegiance to the KTM team until the culmination of the 2026 season. The 28-year-old rider, who boasts two grand prix victories under his belt, currently stands as the leading non-Ducati competitor in the 2023 championship, residing in an impressive fourth position. Although a title challenge remains a distant prospect given the dominance of Ducati and Pecco Bagnaia, Binder's stellar performance this season has solidified his status as one of the year's standout riders. KTM celebrated this momentous achievement during its home race weekend at the Red Bull Ring.

Binder's elation was evident as he expressed gratitude to KTM and the team's management for their continued belief in him and their participation in this remarkable journey. "We are coming very close to what we want to achieve on the track but I cannot say enough good things about the team and my crew," Binder remarked. Francesco Guidotti, the team manager, hailed Binder as an integral pillar of the team, while Pit Beirer, KTM's motorsport boss, underscored the significance of retaining him, deeming it a top priority.

KTM had initially locked in Binder through 2024, a commitment made nearly two years ago during his sophomore season. Despite his longstanding association with KTM, Binder's recent consistent performances raised speculation about potential prospects elsewhere. The trajectory of KTM's RC16 machine appeared to plateau following a substantial leap in 2020. However, the current year has witnessed a resurgence in the bike's performance, with Binder's presence at the forefront becoming more predictable. Notably, he claimed a sprint race victory from 15th on the grid in Argentina, solidifying his place in the annals of racing history.

Binder's contract renewal arrives amid an atmosphere of uncertainty surrounding KTM's broader MotoGP roster for the foreseeable future, possibly as early as 2024. Although Jack Miller's position as Binder's teammate remains secure within the KTM team, the Gas Gas-branded Tech3 outfit presents a puzzle with three candidates – Pol Espargaro, Pedro Acosta, and Augusto Fernandez – vying for two seats, all associated with KTM's parent company, the Pierer Mobility Group, in various capacities.

KTM's determination to establish an additional team on the MotoGP grid, likely partnering with Ajo, continues as it seeks to overcome hurdles posed by series promoter Dorna in securing grid slots. Amidst these complexities, Binder's commitment to KTM stands as a testament to the team's enduring faith in his capabilities and the aspirations shared by both rider and team to scale greater heights in the MotoGP arena.
