Triumph extends Moto2 engine deal until 2029

Triumph's 765cc triple-cylinder engine took over from Honda's 600cc four-cylinder design in 2019, accompanied by the introduction of a Magnetti-Marelli ECU allowing torque map adjustments and engine braking without traction control; subsequent engine upgrades in 2023 added 400rpm and 5 horsepower, enhancing its output to approximately 140hp, with the partnership between Triumph and Moto2 proving successful in achieving new records, impressive reliability, and bridging the gap between Moto3 and MotoGP classes, as per Dorna Chief Sporting Officer Carlos Ezpeleta. The collaboration is set to continue with more innovations and developments anticipated, as Triumph's Chief Product Officer Steve Sargent highlights the use of Moto2 as a platform to showcase the prowess of their 765 triple engines and reinforce the demand for their Street Triple 765 range; looking ahead, the intermediate class is preparing for a transition from Dunlop to Pirelli tires next season, while Triumph plans to introduce a new racing gearbox in 2025, aimed at enhancing performance by avoiding accidental gear misses through repositioning the neutral gear between first and second. Sargent emphasizes the comprehensive enhancements made to the engine performance, encompassing speed, power, torque, revs, cylinder pressure, and compression ratio, with each season yielding improvements on track, translating into shorter race times, higher top speeds, faster lap times, greater competitive parity, and an array of victors. Triumph's pursuit of optimization extends beyond the current season, as the engineering team is actively engaged in testing and refining gear selection improvements to bolster Moto2 results, ensuring an ongoing trajectory of advancement and innovation.
