Supercars return to New-Zealand in 2024
Supercars is delighted to announce its return to New Zealand with the support of the New Zealand Government and Taupō District Council, set to host the Repco Supercars Championship at Taupō International Motorsport Park starting in 2024. Backed by the Major Events Fund, the event is secured until at least 2026.
Supercars CEO Shane Howard expressed gratitude for the endorsement and emphasized the organization's commitment to reconnect with its fervent New Zealand fan base. The collaboration aims to establish a fresh racing chapter at the esteemed Taupō circuit, with specific event dates for 2024 yet to be determined.
Tauhara hapū and Ngāti Tūwharetoa spokesperson, Te Moananui Rameka, highlighted the significance of the Supercars Championship's return to NZ and its debut at Taupō International Motorsport Park in 2024. This event is seen as an opportunity to showcase indigenous culture to a global audience, bridging traditions and values for mutual understanding.
Taupō District Mayor David Trewavas expressed enthusiasm about hosting the Repco Supercars Championship, envisioning the economic benefits it will bring to the region and reinforcing Taupō's reputation as the events capital of New Zealand. The central location is expected to attract visitors from across the country, fostering a welcoming atmosphere.
