Jack Smith will step back from Supercars in 2023

Jack Smith, a 24-year-old Supercars driver, will be stepping back from full-time racing in the Supercars series after the end of the 2023 season, as announced by Brad Jones Racing (BJR). Smith's final full-time race starts will be at the upcoming VAILO Adelaide 500, marking the end of his four-season tenure in the main game with BJR, which began in 2020.

Smith's journey in Supercars began as a wildcard entry in 2019 at Symmons Plains. He joined BJR at the age of 17, progressing through the ranks to reach the main game. In 2017, Smith clinched the Australian V8 Touring Car Series title, a category now known as Super3, and later achieved success in New Zealand, winning the 2018-19 V8 Touring Car Series.

During the 2018 and 2019 Super2 seasons, Smith finished 10th overall. His performance in the 2019 season was notable for the main game seat time it afforded him as a teenager. With Smith's departure, BJR faces a vacancy in its lineup, although drivers Andre Heimgartner and Bryce Fullwood have already signed on with the team. Details of BJR's 2024 SCT Motorsport Supercars program are expected to be released soon.

Reflecting on his decision, Smith acknowledged the significant role Supercars have played in his life, expressing gratitude towards the SCT Logistics crew and Brad Jones Racing for their support over the last seven years. He thanked his fans and highlighted the learning experiences gained during his time with BJR.

Brad Jones, the team owner, paid tribute to Smith, particularly noting his V8 Touring Car title win in Newcastle as a standout achievement. Jones acknowledged the six-year journey with Smith, emphasizing the rarity of winning a championship and the strong bond formed between Smith, his family, and the BJR team.

Smith's decision to step back from full-time Supercars racing signifies a transition in his career. His time in the series has been marked by steady progression, notable achievements, and a deep connection with his team. As he moves forward, Smith leaves behind a legacy of commitment and success in the Supercars series, reflecting both personal growth and professional development within the motorsport industry.
