Alpha Tauri retains Tsunoda and Ricciardo for 2024

AlphaTauri Formula 1 team has confirmed its driver lineup for the 2024 season, with Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo set to continue their collaboration with the team. Additionally, Liam Lawson, who impressed as Ricciardo's replacement during his injury, will return to a Red Bull reserve role.

Tsunoda, who is currently in his third season with AlphaTauri, has shown promise and growth as a driver. Expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, Tsunoda said, “I’m looking forward to continuing to fight and collaborate with the team and Daniel. I’m grateful for Red Bull and Honda for continuing to support and believe in me, and very happy and thankful to continue the partnership.”

Ricciardo, who is recovering from a hand injury, is excited to continue his journey with AlphaTauri. “I’m stoked to be driving with Yuki again next year and continuing the journey with AlphaTauri," he stated. Ricciardo emphasized the progress they have made and the exciting plans for the future, making it an exciting time for the team.

The decision to retain Tsunoda and Ricciardo was made despite Liam Lawson’s notable performances as a stand-in. Lawson, a Super Formula frontrunner, showcased impressive skills, reaching Q3 in Singapore and securing his first points finish.

Outgoing team principal Franz Tost acknowledged Lawson's potential and progress. He expressed confidence in Lawson's future in Formula 1, stating that he believes Lawson "will have a future in Formula 1 soon."

Tost also highlighted the rationale for continuity in the driver lineup, considering the largely unchanged technical regulations for the 2024 season. He expressed satisfaction with Tsunoda's development during his time with the team and emphasized the combined strength of Tsunoda's progress and Ricciardo's race-winning experience, making their driver pairing highly competitive for the 2024 season.

As AlphaTauri prepares for the upcoming season, the team is focused on building on their progress and achieving even better results. The collaboration between Tsunoda and Ricciardo, complemented by Lawson's role as a reserve driver, sets the stage for an exciting and competitive 2024 Formula 1 season.
