Adrien Newey Design powerhouse for Redbull makes desision to join Aston Martin

Design Legend Adrian Newey Joins Aston Martin in Multi-Million Dollar Deal

Adrian Newey, one of the most celebrated designers in Formula 1 history, is set to make a high-profile move to Aston Martin in early 2025, following the expiration of his contract with Red Bull Racing. This move marks the end of a successful tenure at Red Bull and a fresh chapter with the Silverstone-based team, where Newey is expected to earn an impressive AUD $39.12 million annually.

Newey's switch to Aston Martin had been rumored for some time, with the team ultimately winning out over Ferrari, who had also been vying for his expertise. Aston Martin’s successful bid underscores the ambitious transformation under the ownership of billionaire Lawrence Stroll, who has invested heavily in the team since taking over. The move will see Newey work alongside two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, a partnership that promises to bring new dynamics to the grid.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team,” said Newey. “Lawrence Stroll’s passion and commitment to building a world-beating team is clear. With the new AMR Technology Campus and state-of-the-art facilities, Aston Martin has all the tools necessary to compete for championships, and I am excited to contribute to this vision.”

Stroll, who has overseen Aston Martin's rapid rise since rebranding the team in 2021, expressed his excitement about securing Newey’s services. “Adrian is the best in the world at what he does,” said Stroll. “This is the biggest news since Aston Martin’s return to the sport, and it’s a testament to our ambition. As soon as Adrian became available, we knew we had to make it happen.”

Newey’s role at Aston Martin will be pivotal, especially with new regulations set to take effect in 2026. His experience and technical acumen will be crucial as the team aims to develop a car capable of challenging for titles. Although his arrival in 2025 may limit his influence on that year’s design, his input will be instrumental in shaping the team’s 2026 car and beyond.

The move also marks a significant shift in Newey’s career. Having stepped back from day-to-day operations at Red Bull Racing, where he focused on the RB17 hypercar project, Newey is now ready to dive back into the F1 spotlight. His official start date at Aston Martin is March 1, 2025, where he will serve as the team’s managing technical partner, bringing his legendary design prowess to one of F1’s most rapidly evolving teams.
